Not only do you get the underlying mechanics, but the starter kit contains a real animatronics mask. Combined with the included mechanism, the air cylinder will control a mouth movement for which you will record your first audio track and program the movements!
NO COMPUTER REQUIRED! That's right, the AEK can be programmed with or without the use of a computer. A PC can be used to enhance the performance and accuracy of your work programming a show tape, but you could actually use a standard cassette recorder or any other kind of stereo tape recorder to create your own custom shows.
Enhanced programming of the head can be accomplished with audio editing software that is NOT included with the kit. Aaron includes links and a demonstration of how to use 3rd party audio editing software in conjunction with the kit.
You can use software to create your show audio track and then you can edit your tones in the same program to precisely control the mouth movements. If and when you expand beyond one control signal to control other things, you can mix the tones required to control multilple movements with the same audio mixing software and actually see the control signal waveforms adjacent to the audio track.
Simple, but detailed instructions are included explaining how to enhance the audio production and programming of your show with the capabilities of a computer. When it is time to play your show, you can play it back off of a computer, or a tape player or a CD player or an mp3 player like an IPOD. A computer does not have to be connected for playback.
